Even though it's been 10 years since I've been in school, September always feels like the start of a new year for me because of the Atlantic Film Festival. For me it's just like going back to school, I love catching up on what all of my friends have been up to and this year there are a lot of exciting screenings lined up!
It's been a busy year shooting more projects then ever before and I'm delighted to see that a few of them will be screening at AFF in September. They are:
Twenty Eight Feet: life on a little wooden boat
When: Sunday September 15th, 7:00pm and Thursday Sept 19th, 8:00pm
What I did: Director, Cinematographer
This is a short documentary about my most adventurous friend, David Welsford, who lives wherever in the world he feels like on a 50 year old wooden boat. I caught up with Dave in a Caribbean and sailed with him for about 20 days while making this film. It was edited by super talented and helpful friend Shawn Beckwith and features music from the likes of Bahamas and Acres & Acres. You can read an article David wrote about the making of the doc here. You can learn more or buy tickets here.
The Haunted Truth About Haven: A Documentary
When: Saturday September 14th, 2:00pm
What I did: Director, Co-Cinematographer
What I did: Cinematographer
A short film by new director Denis Theriault and produced by Coin Davis and Jenn Millington. When I first met Denis, it took me about 45 seconds to realize I was really going to like working with him. Turns out I was right and it was so much fun! I made a few new friends among the very cool cast and came away with some nice images too! Since Sibling Rivalry, Denis and I have collaborated on another project as well which you can see a trailer for here.
You Never Take Me Seriously
When: Saturday September 14th, 4:30pm and Wednesday September 18th, 4:30pm
What I did: Cinematographer?
Caley is making a behind the scenes, I can't wait to watch it and learn how this movie was made! One day a long time ago Caley asked me if I would like to help him shoot a 3D film with a rig he had made from a chunk of wood and a piece of what looked to be a stop sign post. Because it was Caley, I said Of course! Six days later we were shooting characters on green screen and then about 16 months later we shot a paper mache cave in a small living room. Some how (magic?) Caley has blended these elements together to create the first stereoscopic film the Atlantic Film Festival has ever screened! I'm a little nervous and a lot excited to see how this movie turned out! It will be my very first time watching an anaglyph movie in a theatre! Info and tickets!
There Are Monsters
When: Friday September 13th, 9:30pm
What I did: I shot one very small, very short scene
I'm honoured that director Jay Dahl and the film's cinematographer, Kyle Cameron offered me a chance to shoot a scene for their movie. Jay tells me that the scene made the cut and is scary. Although what's really scary is that first time I get to shoot for a feature film, it's a scene lit entirely with three iPhones... More info and tickets right HERE!
Foam Drive Renegades
When: Saturday September 14th, 4:30pm and Wednesday September 18th, 4:30pm
What I did: Cinematographer
This film did not have a big budget but it did have absolutely everything it needed to turn out pretty freakin awesome. As a cinematographer I was blessed with an outstanding and supportive crew, the perfect cast, the right equipment, and producer Melani Wood who made those things come together. It also helped to have Adam Deviller who is a director with good taste, passion and a staggering amount of drive who made the script he and Matt Chisholm wrote more than come alive. In the back end the film got a fantastic edit from Shawn Beckwith, great music and some color work from Marc Savoie that really enhanced the look perfectly. I think this film will find itself an adoring audience and I feel lucky to have been a part of it. More info and tickets here.
I also had the opportunity to shoot some commercials for the Atlantic Film Festival this year. If I get my hands on a screen grab from those, I'll post it. Thanks for reading and I hope I see you at the festival.

An attempt at an honest look into what it takes to make an hour of television. Get to know who the people are and what craziness they go through to make it all happen. Co-shot with my long time collaborator Scott Thorne, Sound recorded by Aram Kouyoumdjian and also edited by Shawn Beckwith. I'm proud of it, I hope you dig it too. See fun clips here and here. More info and tickets here.
